Explore The Universe From Your Computer
Today I happend to stumble into a website where I can watch the night sky with all the stars, nebulosa and planets in our solar system. Herein I can find pictures on planets in our solarsystem taken by NASA’s Hubble, Chandra’s and Spitzer’s project space telescopes ( the Sombrero galaxy for just to mention one). From here I can explore star sign formations and locations, different UV and IR charts, planetary galleries for the astronomy beginner displaying different galaxies with infomercial text included. I also found one earth and sky podcast for information about planetary placements in relation to the earth and the moon on a specific date from january til’ now. It is totally amazing and one resource I will return to. The website is from Google and is to find at Google.com/sky.
Then, believe it or not, I browsed my way to a new event from Microsoft with help from NASA as of today. It is all about a new release allowing you to explore the universe online in a new interactive way. They offer a download format for Windows XP and Vista users where you can ‘take space tours out to the universe’ from the comfort of your home. Sounds a little bit too good for to be true but I will try it out at least. Must be an experience and I cannot be without testing it myself this time ( a little bit curious by nature actually).
According to the Chicago Tribune ”…what Microsoft and the nation’s leading observatories, universities and planetariums are offering is a rich, interactive experience that doubles as a simple guide to the universe for beginners and a tool professionals will use to share data”.
So…how about a guided trip to the Milky Way? The specialty feature here, I’ve been told, is that you can stop wherever you want to explore the details of a special point and then continue to the center of the Milky Way destination as anything has happend….
