How To Minimize Car Gas Use

Using Your Car’s Features to Minimize Car Gas Use

The quest for relief from oppressive gas prices have led drivers on searches far and wide for ways to minimize the effect of the high prices on their wallets. However, many drivers are literally at arm’s length from ways to help themselves, and do not even know it! In fact, many features that come standard with new vehicles are not only convenient, but can help you to save on gas usage as well!

Since every gallon counts at today’s gas prices, even the simplest improvements to gas mileage can lead to more money in your pockets. Although many products make gaudy claims to improve gas mileage drastically, most (if not all) of these claims are unproven. As usual, the best remedies are usually the simple and somewhat obvious ones. For instance, use your car’s already existing features to ease up on your gas usage when you are driving around from place to place.

Cruise control is a great feature for many reasons. It can keep you from having to glance down at your speed all the time, for one thing. This means that you can avoid getting a speeding ticket by merely setting a consistent speed that will not get you pulled over. Using the cruise control feature effectively takes away any chance of you accidentally getting a heavy foot and an unintended speeding ticket as a result.

However, cruise control is also a great way to conserve gas! When you are on the highway, the cruise control can help your car to stay at a consistent speed. This means that you will not be accidentally increasing your speed and making the car periodically work harder. So, you see? Some of the best ways to conserve gasoline are also convenient methods of driving, anyway!

If you have an “overdrive” option for your car, you should use the overdrive gears whenever possible. Overdrive allows your engine to work much less than it would otherwise. Of course, the less your engine works, the less gasoline you use. In other words, overdrive alone will increase your vehicle’s fuel efficiency!

While you are at it, keep your eye on your RPM gauge, especially if you drive a manual transmission automobile. After all, any time your car is running in the high end of the RPM range, you are using more engine power than you need to, and thusly, more gas. Make sure that you are not staying in the low gears for too long before shifting, and spend as much time in the comfortable RPM range of higher gears as you can, since you will save yourself some gas in the process. The RPM gauge is another example of an under-utilized feature that, if used correctly, can help you to conserve gas.

While we are talking about features to use, let’s also mention a feature that you should stay away from if you are trying to conserve gas: the air conditioning feature. If you turn on your car’s air conditioning, your car will end up working much harder than usual, which means your car will consume more gas to fuel that work. The easy translation here is to avoid the air conditioning whenever you can. After all, it may be hot out, but you definitely do not want to have to sweat it out while pumping gas into your empty tank, right?

As you can see, there are many fairly basic features that can help you to keep your car going and away from the gas station. Even though some of these features may only have a small effect on your car’s gas usage, if you follow all of the tips, it will add up. Again, with gas prices as high as they are now, even if you can save a gallon or two here and there, or simple look into a new do-it-yourself water based system that can be a pretty substantial savings for you as well as our planet!

Acupuncture Basics

What Do Acupuncturists Do

The acupuncturist is the specialist who conducts acupuncture. He or she may use needles or some other instruments depending on the type that will be used to create harmony and balance in the body.

Before this person does anything, you will first have to answer a few questions. You will then be given a physical examination to check your pulse and observe the shape, color and coating of your tongue. Other things that are checked will be the color and texture of the skin and your posture as this will give some essential indications of your current health. Some acupuncturists also measures off a meanvalue of your total qi condition as a base for your coming acupuncture treatment.

Then will you be told to lie down on a padded examining table and the needles are inserted to the skin. The difference with this kind of needle is that they twirl and jiggle each time they are pushed further into the body.

You may not feel them at all and if you do, it will only be a twitch that soon goes away. Once they are in place, this will be left there for 15 to 60 minutes that may make you feel very relaxed and sleepy that you may even doze off. Once the session is complete, the needles are removed and you will be on your way.

In some cases, acupuncture is more effective when the needles are first heated. This technique is known as “moxibustion.” Here, the acupuncturist lights a small bunch of the dried herb called moxa or mugwort and holds it above the needles. The herb, which burns slowly and gives off a little smoke and a pleasant, incense-like smell, will never directly touch your body.

Another variation is electrical acupuncture. Here, electrical wires are hooked up to the needles and a weak current runs through it which may cause no or little sensation at all.

It is also possible that herbal medications will also be prescribed by the acupuncturist for your treatment to be successful.

When looking for an acupuncturist, make sure that person is licensed. Before he or she can obtain one, they have to complete 4 years of training at an approved college of oriental medicine. In the state of California, one governing body that gives the person the title is the California Acupuncture Committee.

If they get this from another organization, a copy of their license must always be clearly displayed in the practitioner’s office. One example is the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

When choosing an acupuncturist, there are a few things you should ask aside from their credentials. You should know what styles of acupuncture is used as there are some techniques that do not use needles to treat a patient.

Although there are no studies which prove that one technique is better than the other, some patients are more comfortable with one type over the other as in any other health therapy session.

Another question you should ask and discuss further is the length of the treatment. Patients who are suffering from a chronic illness will have to be treated over a period of months before any improvements can be seen. This will help you plan your schedule since you need to go to the clinic 2 to 3 times weekly.

The acupuncturist just like a medical doctor is there to help you get better. If you don’t see any progress with this person, perhaps you should seek the help of another specialist and it is adviced to go for a recommended practitioner. The chances for to get optimal help increases this way. All the best to you.

Will You Follow The Summer Olympics In China 2008?

How to Enjoy the 2008 Beijing Olympics

You may be an Olympic enthusiast already, or perhaps you’re more of a casual sports fan. In fact, you may not be a fan of sports whatsoever, but there’s still likely to be something for you during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Here are some things to keep in mind to enhance your enjoyment of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.

First of all, it’s important to keep an open mind as you follow the Olympics. Try watching sports that you may not have any immediate interest in, or that you have never seen at all. Often times, Olympic sports that don’t garner much attention, such as synchronized swimming or water polo, may be among the most fascinating to watch. You will never know whether you like a particular sport unless you give it a try!

While you’re giving other sports a chance, give other countries an opportunity to impress you, as well. One of the most unique aspects of the Olympic Games, and the thing that sets them apart from many other competitions, is the international flair that the Games have. It’s fun to root on your own country and the athletes that represent it, but many times you will also find yourself admiring that determination and skill of athletes from other countries as well. There’s nothing wrong with that, after all, that’s what the Olympics are all about!

During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, be sure to catch the dramatic and historic Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well. The Ceremonies are among the most popular events in the Olympic Games, even though no actual competition takes place in them. What the Opening Ceremony (and Closing Ceremony) is all about is providing a showcase for the cultural beauty and individuality of all the countries involved, while also emphasizing the essential unity of the world community.

In addition, the Opening Ceremony provides a joyful celebration of the exciting events to come, and is sure to get you pumped up for the rest of the Olympic Games. Meanwhile, the Closing Ceremony celebrates all that we have seen, while showing respect between athletes and countries alike. No viewing of the Olympic Games is complete without witnessing the dynamic and amazing Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

The Olympic Games aren’t just about scores, finishing times, and medals, and the 2008 Beijing Olympics will be no different. The most enthralling and captivating moments don’t necessarily involve who wins and who loses, but the human stories that emerge throughout the friendly competition between countries. If the 2008 Beijing Olympics are similar to previous editions of the Olympic Games, there will be no shortage of inspirational, touching, and amusing storylines and athletes. Be sure to keep an eye on them, if you want to maximize your enjoyment of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Another way to really enjoy the Olympic Games is to watch it with your family and friends. Sports and friendly competition provide a wonderful bonding environment that can help bridge gaps and show you that you have more in common with others than you may have previously thought. Sports transcend age, cultural, and political differences, and thusly are a great platform to use to bond with people that you may normally have very little in common with, or who you may not always agree with.

Finally, if you get a chance, try some of the sports out yourself! Kick a soccer ball around, shoot some baskets outside, or go for a run to experience what the competition is like for yourself. You’ll likely have a newfound respect for the athletes who compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympics when you see for yourself just how much difficulty the different sports and events present to competitors.

No matter how you spend your time watching the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, make sure to enjoy them- after all, they only come every four years! The Olympics are a time like no other, a celebration of sports, competition, and unity…make sure that you are a part of the fun!

Bidding Advice for New Collectors

Bidding Management Explored

Picking up collectibles is one of the most fun and rewarding things to do on eBay and other web auctions, simply because you can find so many things that you just can’t get anywhere else. Here are a few guidelines to help you on your way.

Find your Category of Interest.

You’ll most likely find that all the items you’re after are listed in a single category. Make your actions easier by adding this category to your browser’s Favorites, and keep coming back.

Watch Out for Mistakes.

If you collect something, the chances are that you already have a lot of knowledge about it. This can be your chance to take advantage of a seller’s mistake. They might not realise that they have a rare version of an item, or they might have left off the key information that makes it to be a finding. If you’re willing to email the seller and ask them a few questions about the item to confirm that it is what you think it is, then you should be able to buy items like these. You can then resell them at a big profit, if that is what you want to do.

Read Item Descriptions with a Healthy Scepticism.

If you find something you haven’t heard of, and the description calls it ‘rare’, don’t assume that it actually is. Far too many sellers just put ‘rare’ into all of their descriptions - the chances are that the item is nothing unique and has just been described wrongly or in a ’selling touch’. Don’t place your bid unless you know what you’re actually buying.

Explore Other Users.

When you pick up something, you’ll probably notice that there are four or five sellers who seem to come up with consistently good items - and the same buyers buying them. Add their user pages to your Favorites, and check back often to see what they’ve got - or what they’re bidding on - that you might be interested in.

Don’t Get Too Emotional to a Special Listing.

There are millions of units being listed every day on eBay - whatever you want, it’ll come around again, and if you don’t get it there are plenty more things to buy. This is similar to the golden rule of negotiating: always be prepared to walk away. If you can’t walk away, then expect to pay over the odds. There are few things so rare that another seller won’t have one to sell. Go and bid in a lower-priced auction, instead of getting into a bidding war in one that is already too expensive.

Beware of the Shipping Costs.

If you bid on lots of small things with a relatively low value, you might end up paying as much for postage as you do for each collectible unit. You should take these fees into consideration when you make your bid. Another good strategy is to always purchase a few things at once from the same dealer, as they will almost always offer you a decent discount on the postage.

When you’re placing your bid, you might notice that some auctions go more slowly than others, going days at a time without any new bids. However, how to take advantage of these ’slow’ auctions is another story. Good luck now on your way to find those special collectibles of value and/or just simple enjoy what web auctions can offers you today.

eBay - The First 12 Years - an Introduction

Yes, you read that correctly: twelve years. eBay was created in September 1995, by a man called Pierre Omidyar, who was living in San Jose. He wanted his site - then called ‘AuctionWeb’ - to be an online marketplace, and wrote the first code for it in one weekend. It was one of the first websites of its kind in the world. The name ‘eBay’ comes from the domain Omidyar used for his site. His company’s name was Echo Bay, and the ‘eBay AuctionWeb’ was originally just one part of Echo Bay’s website at ebay.com. The first thing ever sold on the site was Omidyar’s broken laser pointer, which he got $14 for.

The site quickly became massively popular, as sellers came to list all sorts of odd things and buyers actually bought them. Relying on trust seemed to work remarkably well, and meant that the site could almost be left alone to run itself. The site had been designed from the start to collect a small fee on each sale, and it was this money that Omidyar used to pay for AuctionWeb’s expansion. The fees quickly added up to more than his current salary, and so he decided to quit his job and work on the site full-time. It was at this point, in 1996, that he added the feedback facilities, to let buyers and sellers rate each other and make buying and selling safer.
